Arrow and the IoT

Arrow + Microsoft = IoT

In a world where data is the new currency, and we are able to capture and analyse more than ever before, IoT is creating new services and business opportunities.

Our commitment to delivering the latest in emerging and advanced technology to the local market is at the core of our business, but enabling and supporting partner excellence is why we do it.

Embracing IoT

Not sure how IoT is currently being applied? Take a look at how Arrow has implemented IoT solutions, from large scale projects such as the SAM car to practical applications to traditional industries as outlined in the dairy farming case study.

SAM car

After a serious crash in 2000, doctors told Indy Racing League driver Sam Schmidt he'd never move his arms or legs again. They didn't say anything about driving.

In less than a year, Arrow modified a 2014 Corvette C7 Stingray so it could be driven by head movements alone. The semi-autonomous car was aptly named SAM - it allowed qualified NASCAR driver, Sam Schmidt, to race again.

A processor translates data from the cameras and sensors to a rotary actuator on the steering wheel, allowing Sam to control the car via head movements and his breath.

The SAM car is testament to our commitment to innovation and our belief that anything is possible.

Dairy farmer

A dairy farmer had an idea about using predictive analysis to treat sick cattle before symptoms appeared. Arrow helped the farmer make his idea a reality.

Using sensors to capture real-time data, the farmer can detect illness up to three days before symptoms are visible, allowing him to isolate them and prevent disease transmission.

New business opportunities

Creating and deploying connected solutions requires expertise across a broad span of technologies from sensors, embedded compute, short and long-range wireless connectivity, gateways, cloud platforms and application development.

It also requires expertise in real time service monitoring & management and full life-cycle management. Organisations typically have strengths in some of these areas, for example either on the device creation side but not on the applications and operations side or vice-versa. Bridging this gap requires new partnerships and a greater level of collaboration to bring IoT solutions to market.

Whatever the IoT dream is, Arrow can help throughout every step of the journey, enabling you to bring an innovative solution to life.
